Origin story

While working at a VC fund, Alok sat on the boards of several companies, and kept seeing the same thing...

Most of the companies were stuck explaining what had already happened, hoping nobody dug deep. Very few would walk in knowing exactly what was coming next. It wasn't a talent gap. It came down to tools. The companies with clarity could actually model out different scenarios and see how their data connected to results, in real time. Everyone else was working off last month's export.

That gap is why we started Drivetrain.

Finance deserves better tools than a chat window

Alok, Tarkeshwar, and Saurav founded Drivetrain to give FP&A teams the tooling upgrade they never had. The conviction behind it?

Finance is one of the largest populations of programmers, yet runs on the worst tooling of any technical profession. Excel has no version control, no diff, no way for AI to operate it reliably.

Finance teams use ChatGPT and Claude daily, but no one runs a budget cycle on them, because chat tools can describe a model, not change one with the accuracy and governance finance needs.
